Morovol ATX PC Case

Getting a cheap and reliable used computer changed my life when I was a child. One of our favorite things to do at Denton Tech. is to provide entry level systems for low-income families.
We often have to piece these system together from combinations of used components (that we thoroughly test). Many good parts can be acquired second hand but some things are difficult to find so we look for inexpensive new parts.
I can usually find good deals on reliable CPUs, memory, and video cards. But cases are an issue. If someone has a low end PC case they are getting rid of they usually will just throw it away. Most of the cases in the used market are fashion-cases that sell for north of $100.
This Morovol PC case (and similar ones) can often be found on sale for around $40, this leaves me with more money in the budget for things that will make a real difference for our clients (like upgraded network cards).
Notable positive things about this case are:
- It can fit full sized ATX motherboards and power supplies, this is often a requirement for me.
- There are no sharp edges inside the case. Removing these creates a lot of extra work for a manufacturer. At this price I would expect to have to be careful with my hands.
- It came with two fans. They are not great fans but fans are cheap and easy to replace.
- While the case is not flashy its also not terrible looking. A boring black box that can fade into the background. It's not something that says "Steal Me"
- There's even a 5.25" bay if you need that for something. Most cases don't have those anymore.
Of course any case like this is going to have drawbacks as well:
- It's not very strong. You have better not put anything heavy on top of it and you must be careful when moving.
- It is from China so there may be quality control issues. You had better buy it from a place with a good return policy is case it arrives broken. Don't count on manufacturer support.
- The cooling ability of this case is not going to be enough for high end systems. Look for a 65w CPU and a moderate video card like an Nvidia xx60.
- It is small for an ATX case so assembly is a little challenging. Video cards longer than 318mm will not fit. CPU coolers are limited to 140mm tall.
It conclusion, this is not a great case. But it can be a great-for-the-price one.
